Embraer E175 Startup Checklist

Embraer E175 Startup Notes

The E175 might be the easiest airliner start in the sim: batteries on, APU running, and the air management system handles the bleed logic for you, so there is no pack and isolation valve dance. Load the FMS while the IRS aligns, then engine start is a single action: rotate the START/STOP selector to START and release it. The FADEC sequences the starter, ignition, and fuel automatically, and will even abort a bad start on its own. Your job is mostly to monitor N2 and ITT.

The mistakes here come from over-managing. Pilots hold the start knob in START waiting for something to happen, but it is a momentary selection: turn, release, monitor. Others hunt for bleed switches that never needed touching, or start cranking before the APU is actually available to supply air. The last trap is skipping FMS initialization because the start is so simple; without position, route, and performance data entered, you will still be scrambling when you reach the runway.

Common mistakes

  • Holding the start knob instead of releasing it
  • Cranking before the APU is available to supply air
  • Skipping FMS setup because the start is easy
