PHS 11 - Cruise8 steps
Cruise AltitudeLEVEL OFF - ALT HLD ENGAGES |
Cruise SpeedSETNOTE: High speed cruise is VMO/MMO; intermediate is VMO/0.67 M; long range is 235 kt / 0.68 M for the RJ70 and RJ85 and 240 kt / 0.68 M for the RJ100. |
Cruise ThrustCLIMB NORMCAUTION: Cruise thrust should normally be limited to CLIMB NORM. CLIMB MAX may be required at unfavourable weight, altitude and temperature combinations. |
VMO / MMORESPECTEDCAUTION: VMO is 300 KIAS (RJ100: 305 KIAS) and MMO is M0.72 or M0.73. When using high speed cruise it is often better to sit a few knots below VMO/MMO to avoid nuisance overspeed warnings. |
Cabin Altitude and Differential PressureCONFIRM STABILISED WITHIN LIMITS |
FuelMONITORCAUTION: Maximum fuel temperature delivered to the engine is +55 degC, minimum +3 degC. Wing fuel asymmetry must not exceed 680 kg (1,500 lb). |
VNAV CRZ PageDISPLAYEDNOTE: The VNAV CRZ page gives time and distance to top of descent. |
Turbulence ProcedureREVIEWED IF REQUIREDCAUTION: In severe turbulence stabilise at approximately 245 knots or 0.6 M, whichever is lower, select CONT IGN A and B ON, do not exceed 20 degrees bank, keep the yaw damper engaged and do not engage ALT, IAS or MACH modes.
PHS 12 - Preparation for Approach6 steps
FMSCHECKED |
Actual FuelCHECKED |
Landing DataSET / CHECKEDNOTE: Set VREF in the TRP VCROSS window and VFTO in the VDOT window. Minimum flap-up speed VER is VFTO + 10. |
Land Flap / Steep ApproachAS REQUIREDCAUTION: Normal landing flap is 33 degrees. Flap 33 is mandatory for automatic landings and for Category 2 and Category 3 approaches. Steep approaches require a steep approach monitor system, an angle between 4.5 and 6 degrees, flap 33 and an operative airbrake. |
PressurisationSETNOTE: Confirm the landing altitude, referenced to the left altimeter sub-scale setting for landing. |
BriefingCOMPLETEDCAUTION: A minimum of three engines must be operating at the start of an autopilot-coupled ILS or non-precision approach. The maximum certificated approach angle is 6 degrees for the RJ70 and RJ85 and 5.5 degrees for the RJ100.
PHS 13 - Descent10 steps
Descent AltitudeSET ON THE MCP BEFORE INITIATING |
Descent ModeVS OR LVL CHGNOTE: Vertical speed is generally the best mode because with the autothrottle engaged the FGS holds both vertical speed and airspeed. |
PTUON |
Descent SpeedSETNOTE: High speed descent is MMO / 290 kt; long range is 0.60 IMN / 250 kt. A rate of 2,000 ft/min is normally sufficient, typically 1,000 ft/min below 18,000 ft. |
AirbrakeAS REQUIREDCAUTION: Change airbrake position smoothly and slowly when the autopilot is engaged, and avoid changing it while the FGS is in the altitude acquire phase. |
12,000 ftSET 250 KT IN THE IAS/MACH WINDOWNOTE: Set 250 kt at around 12,000 ft so the speed is reduced to 250 kt by 10,000 ft. |
AltimetersSET TO DESTINATION QNH AT TRANSITION LEVEL |
Fasten Belts and Landing LightsON |
APUSTART AT 5,000 FT OR BELOWCAUTION: Do not switch on APU AIR until the APU has been running for at least two minutes, five if practicable. Avoid starting the APU at high altitude and speed to minimise starting TGT. |
Air Supply for LandingAPU AIR ON, ENGINE AIR OFF, PACKS ON
PHS 14 - Approach and Landing19 steps
Navigation AidsTUNED AND IDENTIFIEDNOTE: For an ILS or VOR approach, FORMAT must be ARC, ROSE or MAP and CRS must be selected to V/L. |
Initial Approach Speed210 KNOTSNOTE: The initial approach can be flown clean between 250 kt and VFTO + 10 kt; 210 kt is a comfortable speed. Minimum manoeuvring speed with flap 0 is VFTO + 15. |
VOR LOC ModeARMED |
CabinSECURED FOR LANDING |
Flaps 18SET AT VFTO + 10CAUTION: Minimum manoeuvring speed at flap 18 is VREF33 + 30 or VREF24 + 20. RJ85 flap 18 limit speed is 215 kt, maximum for holding 175 kt. |
Final Approach TrackAIM FOR 160 KNOTS WITH FLAP 18NOTE: Or minimum manoeuvring speed if higher, approaching the final descent point. |
Landing GearDOWN - 3 GREENCAUTION: Gear operating and extended speed is 205 KIAS. Avoid selecting the gear close to the limit; noise, vibration and buffet are more intense at higher speeds. |
Flaps 24SET - REDUCE TO VREF33 + 20CAUTION: RJ85 flap 24 limit speed is 180 kt. Minimum manoeuvring speed at flap 24 is VREF33 + 20 or VREF24 + 10. |
APP ModeENGAGED - GLIDESLOPE CAPTURE |
Flaps 33SET FOR LANDINGCAUTION: RJ85 flap 33 limit speed is 150 kt. Flap is normally selected directly from 24 to 33; the intermediate 30 degree setting assists speed reduction and is useful on a three-engined approach. |
Approach SpeedVAPP - VREF PLUS 5 KNOTSNOTE: The basic threshold speed is VREF and may be increased by up to 14 kt for gusts and icing. Minimum manoeuvring speed at flap 30/33 is VREF33 + 10. |
Landing ChecksCOMPLETE BY 500 FTNOTE: Gear down and three greens, brakes YELLOW, flaps indicating 33 degrees, airframe anti-ice and de-ice OFF. Nose-wheel steering is checked and centred as the last item, left until 500 ft if practicable. |
Stabilised ApproachBY 1,000 FT IMC / 500 FT VMCWARNING: Criteria are: on the correct flight path, in the landing configuration, only small changes required, vertical speed no greater than 1,000 ft/min, appropriate thrust, all checklists complete, and sustained speed VAPP -5 to +10 kt. If not stabilised, go around. |
AirbrakeOUTCAUTION: For Category 2, Category 3 and automatic landings the airbrakes must be out by 500 ft. On all other approaches they may be left in until below 200 ft; selecting them at 100 ft generally gives the correct threshold speed reduction. |
AutopilotAS REQUIREDCAUTION: The autopilot must not remain engaged below 160 ft AGL if both radio altimeters are inoperative, and may remain engaged to 50 ft AGL only if the CAT 2 status annunciator is lit. For an automatic landing it must be engaged before 1,000 ft AGL and remain engaged. |
FlareREDUCE THRUST TO FLIGHT IDLEWARNING: Do not prolong the flare. Touchdown should be about 1,000 ft past the threshold, at about 7 kt below the threshold speed. A high attitude combined with a high sink rate could cause a tail strike in the RJ100. |
Main Wheels DownGROUND IDLE |
Nose Wheel DownSELECT LIFT SPLRNOTE: The spoilers should deploy automatically; a manual selection to LIFT SPLR is made as a back-up. Counter the nose-down trim change with elevator. |
BrakingBALANCED AND PROPORTIONATE TO RUNWAY REMAININGWARNING: Do not move the column significantly forward of neutral after nose-wheel touchdown; this can cause wheelbarrowing. Rearward column with the spoilers deployed improves deceleration.
