AIRCRAFT BRIEF
The Airbus A310 made its maiden flight on 3 April 1982 and entered commercial service with Swissair and Lufthansa in April 1983, becoming Airbus's second commercial aircraft after the A300. A shortened derivative of the A300, the A310 introduced a new smaller wing and a two-crew glass cockpit with EFIS displays - marking Airbus's first step toward the advanced flight deck philosophy later refined in the A320 family. It served widely as a medium to long-range widebody on intercontinental routes and was eventually replaced by the A330-200, with around 255 examples built through 1998.
