How Much Does Jet Fuel Weigh per Gallon?
Jet A and Jet A-1 weigh approximately 6.7 pounds per US gallon (0.804 kg per litre) at the ICAO standard temperature of 15C. Real-world density varies with temperature and batch, typically between 6.46 and 6.99 lb/gal - cold-soaked fuel is denser, which is why dispatch paperwork sometimes shows a different figure than the fuel truck.
Avgas 100LL weighs approximately 6.0 pounds per US gallon (0.721 kg per litre). This is the standard figure used in POH weight and balance sections for piston aircraft such as the Cessna 172.

Fuel is bought and loaded by volume but flight planning runs on mass. Takeoff performance, range, and centre of gravity all depend on fuel weight, so converting volume to mass with the right density is the first step of every load sheet.
