AIRCRAFT BRIEF

The Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker is Russia's answer to the F-15 Eagle, designed to achieve air superiority over NATO fighters in the 1980s. First flying in 1977 and entering service in 1985, the Su-27 features a fly-by-wire system and the OEPS-27 electro-optical search and track system. Its iconic Pugachev's Cobra maneuver demonstrated the aircraft's exceptional high angle-of-attack capability. The Su-27 platform has spawned an entire family of variants including the Su-30, Su-33, Su-34, and Su-35.
