AIRCRAFT BRIEF

The Sukhoi Su-33 Flanker-D is the carrier-based variant of the Su-27, developed for operations aboard the Russian carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. It features folding wings and tailplanes, a strengthened undercarriage, and an arresting hook for deck landings. Instead of catapult launches, the Su-33 uses a ski-jump ramp in a STOBAR (Short Take-Off But Arrested Recovery) configuration. It entered service in 1995 and remains Russia's primary carrier fighter.
