AIRCRAFT BRIEF

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15bis shocked the world when it appeared over Korea in November 1950. The 'bis' (second) variant featured the more powerful Klimov VK-1F engine, giving it a performance advantage over most Western fighters except the F-86 Sabre. Armed with two 23mm NR-23 cannons and one 37mm N-37 cannon, it was a deadly adversary and influenced jet fighter design for decades. Over 18,000 were built across the Soviet Union, China, and Eastern Europe.
