AIRCRAFT BRIEF

The Saab AJS-37 Viggen (Thunderbolt) is one of the most impressive aircraft of the Cold War era - a Swedish all-weather multi-role combat aircraft designed to operate from dispersed road bases across Sweden. First flying in 1967 and entering service in 1971, it featured a distinctive canard-delta configuration, a thrust reverser for short-field landing, and an advanced digital computer for its era. The AJS-37 is an upgraded attack/reconnaissance/anti-shipping variant that remained in service until 2005.
