AIRCRAFT BRIEF

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8 is considered by many historians to be the finest German piston-engine fighter of World War II. When it appeared in 1941, it outclassed the Spitfire Mk V, forcing a crisis in the RAF. The A-8, introduced in 1944, was the most-produced Fw 190 variant, featuring the powerful BMW 801 D-2 radial engine. It was a versatile platform used for fighter, ground attack, and bomber interception roles, with the R8 'Sturmbock' variant becoming a fearsome bomber destroyer.
