AIRCRAFT BRIEF

The Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1981 and gained immediate combat experience in Afghanistan, flying over 60,000 sorties. Designed as a purpose-built close air support aircraft with heavy armour protection - including a titanium bathtub around the cockpit - it proved highly survivable against ground fire. The Su-25 remains in widespread operational service worldwide and has seen combat in nearly every major conflict involving its operators from Afghanistan to Ukraine.
