The Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules first flew on April 5, 1996, as a comprehensive modernisation of the legendary C-130 Hercules family. Powered by four Rolls-Royce AE2100D3 turboprops driving six-bladed Dowty composite propellers, the J-model eliminated the need for a flight engineer and navigator through advanced FADEC and glass cockpit technology. It serves with over 20 nations and remains the premier tactical airlift platform, capable of operating from unpaved forward strips while carrying 92 troops or 45,000 lb of cargo.
