Propeller Failure After Take-Off

    RPM TOO HIGH: manipulate the propeller lever to bring the propeller within limits
  2. 2
    If no responsethrottle back to keep RPM below 2,350 RPM
  3. 3
    Leave flaps at TAKE-OFF and maintain 65 mph minimum
  4. 4
    If unsuccessfulreturn to the field maintaining a nose up attitude, regulate rate of descent with gentle throttle manipulation, and make a power off landing
  5. 5
    RPM TOO LOW (propeller in full coarse pitch): increase airspeed without losing altitude, reduce throttle to 30 in.Hg if possible
  6. 6
    Raise flaps to CLIMB in stages, maintain maximum airspeed and climb at the slowest rate to gain altitude for a safe circuit; jettison external loads if necessary

Ditching

Immediate actions · 6 steps

  1. 1
    Keep approach speed sufficient for control down to impact with the water
  2. 2
    Instruct other occupants and unlock cabin and cockpit doors
  3. 3
    Make the approach into wind, at right angles to the swell
  4. 4
    Ditch on the falling side of a wave crest or swell top
  5. 5
    Touch down TAIL FIRST to prevent the nose striking a wave crest
  6. 6
    Occupantsbrace for a double impact, do not move until the aircraft has come to rest, then help each other through the doors as quickly as possible
