AIRCRAFT BRIEF

The F-16C/D Block 40/42 'Night Falcon' entered service from December 1988 as the first F-16 fully integrated with the LANTIRN system, pairing the AN/AAQ-13 navigation pod (terrain-following radar and wide-FOV FLIR to the HUD) with the AN/AAQ-14 targeting pod for autonomous night and all-weather precision strike. The Block 40 is powered by the General Electric F110-GE-100 (the Block 42 uses the Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-220) and carries the APG-68(V) radar, strengthened landing gear, and structural upgrades for low-level operations. In Falcon BMS it is the dedicated LANTIRN-era night/strike Viper, flying full ramp starts and laser-guided bomb employment via the chin-mounted pods.
